ENT, Eye & Dental Departments to shift to Old Akhnoor Hospital building
4/5/2025 10:24:03 PM
Early Times Report
AKHNOOR, Apr 5: In a key decision to revamp healthcare services, the ENT, Eye, and Dental departments of Akhnoor Sub-District Hospital will be relocated to the old hospital building. The decision was taken during a Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) meeting chaired by Hon'ble MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal, who also serves as the committee's Chairman.
The MLA directed the Assistant Executive Engineer (PWD) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the renovation of the old building. He assured that if required, funds would be arranged through the MLA Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
To boost the Hospital Development Fund, he proposed floating tenders for running the hospital canteen and parking, stressing that the revenue generated could be used for paying salaries of outsourced staff. Raising serious concerns, he noted the 3-month delay in ultrasound tests, especially for kidney stone patients, and urged an immediate increase in daily ultrasound slots. He also condemned the unethical practice of sending X-ray reports via mobile phones and highlighted a shortage of X-ray films, directing urgent procurement.
The committee approved the immediate purchase of emergency medicines, diagnostic supplies, and X-ray films to ensure seamless services under Ayushman Bharat, JSSY, and HDF schemes.
Proposals under Kayakalp and LaQshya-including beautification, branding of health centers, installation of CCTV cameras, and enhanced sanitation-were also approved.
The MLA told media that the old hospital building, built at crores of rupees, was lying underutilized. With diagnostic lab work set to begin there under NHM, the shifting of departments will maximize its use. He also announced the upcoming launch of dialysis services, with CT Scan, MRI, and a Blood Bank in the pipeline.
He stressed that the CHC Jourian must shift to its new building this month, urging all departments to fast-track the process. Officials present included SDM Akhnoor, BMO, BDO, CDPO, ZEO, AEE PHE, AEE PWD, AEE PDD, and other key personnel.
