KVK Reasi promotes Apple farming in sub-tropical areas

Reasi, Apr 19: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and educating farmers on apple farming in warm climatic areas of Reasi distt. of J&K.KVK Reasi is working under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.B.N.Triptahi and able guidance of Director Extension (DE), Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. According to Dr.Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist &Head of KVK Reasi, Anna variety is a low chilling variety of apple and can perform well even in warm climates of the distt. He added that Anna is an early season variety of apple and if managed properly it can give heavy crop even in sub-tropical belts of the distt. He further said that KVK has laid Anna variety of apple at its demonstration farm and KVK is educating farmers on hot climate apple farming.He expressed that farmers of warmer areas of the distt. can generate additional income by growing Anna apples of commercial level. He narrated by the scientific Anna apple farming farmers of warmer areas can fetch more farm returns. He informed that fruits of Anna apples have balanced flavour and sweet taste.He also informed that Anna apples flowering time is mid-February and harvesting time is June and this variety can bear fruits in hot climate.Dr.Arvinder Kumar stressed on timely training, pruning and nutrients management in apple crop for the maximum results. He highlighted that KVK’s efforts are part of a broader mission to bridge the knowledge gap, enhance farm productivity and encourage agripreneurship. He discussed on scientific cultivation of apple farming especially on Anna variety of apple.
