Early Times Report

Samba, Apr 22: In a significant tribute to World Earth Day, Navgrah Vatika, a sacred garden initiative, was inaugurated at SPPND Government Degree College Samba. This joint venture by the Basantar Eco Club and Maitri NSS Unit was formally launched by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri. The Vatika features nine indigenous and medicinal plants, each symbolizing one of the Navgrahas (nine celestial bodies) of Hindu astrology. The plantation ceremony was enriched with the chanting of Vedic mantras, creating an atmosphere of spiritual reverence and ecological commitment.
In her address, Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri highlighted that the Navgrah Vatika not only contributes to enhancing green cover but also promotes the revival of ancient ecological wisdom and cultural heritage. The Department of Botany further commemorated the day by organizing a student seminar and poster-making competition on the theme “It’s My Power, It’s My Earth.” Students from various semesters actively participated, showcasing their creativity, environmental consciousness, and commitment to sustainability.
The initiative aims to blend environmental responsibility with spiritual harmony, inspiring a deeper connection with nature and encouraging sustainable practices.
The celebration reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness, cultural values, and responsible citizenship among its students.
