GDC Thannamandi observes World Intellectual Property cum World Book Day

THANNAMANDI, Apr 26: The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with Department of Library Sciences under the aegis of IQAC of GDC Thannamandi observed World Intellectual Property cum World Book Day as part of Viksit Bharat@47 Abhiyan here today.
On this occasion a workshop on the theme "IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP with special reference to Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) & IP management for Start-ups" organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College wherein Dr. Ashaq Malik, IQAC Coordinator and Head, Department of Botany was the resource person. Anuj Bali, College Librarian and Vice President IIC, coordinated the event.
The event began with a thought-provoking and interactive presentation by Dr. Ashaq Malik who explained historical background, legal and ethical basis as well as exemplified various types of Intellectual Property Rights and their significance in today's academic and research landscape. He also gave an account of various schemes and startups and how students and youth can get benefit through IIC. Dr. Gulshan Rashid Bhat also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the role of intellectual property in fostering innovation and creativity in Music and arts.
Anuj Bali spoke passionately about the importance of cultivating a habit of book reading, stressing how books remain timeless companions and sources of wisdom in a fast-evolving digital world.
Later, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Head of the Department of Chemistry and the officiating Principal, shared his valuable insights on the relevance of IPR in safeguarding creative and scientific endeavors.
The event was graced by the presence of several staff members, who came together to underline the importance of books and intellectual property in shaping an informed, responsible society.
The college reiterated its commitment to promoting reading culture and awareness of intellectual rights among students, encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to academic and professional fields.
Dr. Aftab Ahmed from Department of Geography conducted the proceedings of the programme whereas Dr. Nazar Ul Islam, Head Department of Islamic Studies presented the formal vote of thanks.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Prof. Rizwana, Dr. Nagina, Dr. Shazia Poswal, Dr. Mohd Ashraf, Dr. Yasmeen Dr. Sarfaraz Mirza, Dr. Showkat Ahmed and Sarfaraz Ahmed.
