BGSBU's Economics Department concludes National Workshop

JAMMU, Apr 26: The Department of Economics at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University successfully concludes its week-long National Workshop on Advanced Research Methods and Time Series Analysis, held from April 21 to 25, 2025. Forty-three doctoral scholars and faculty members from across India participated in this rigorous academic endeavour.
The resource persons delivered a comprehensive suite of lectures, beginning with Prof. M. Ramachandran's "The Trilemma Trap," followed by his treatments of "Basics of Time-Series Analysis" and "Cointegration Analysis." Dr. Arif Billah then explored "ARMA and Engle-Granger Cointegration," while Dr. Gopinathan R. presented "Volatility Modelling: ARCH and GARCH." Dr. Sajad Ahmad Rather and Ms. Tazeem Akhter jointly led "Issues in Collection of Secondary Data: Accessing Major Databases," and Dr. Shafkat Shafi Dar offered an in-depth session on "Generalized Method of Moments & Instrumental Variables." Dr. Showket Ahmad Mir addressed "Research and Publication Ethics: Research Conduct," and Dr. Faizan Shabir, together with Dr. Aasim Mir, guided participants through "Writing High-Impact Research Papers," with Dr. Shabir further demonstrating "Data Analytics with R: An Overview." Rounding out the technical modules, Dr. Mohd Zukqarnain examined "Spectral Analysis and Wavelet Techniques" and "Vector AutoRegression (VAR)."
The valedictory session opened with a welcome address by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Rather, Head of the Department of Economics, who acknowledged the commitment of all participants and the collective efforts that made the workshop a success. He was followed by addresses from Prof. Shamas Kamal Anjum , Associate Dean School of Social Sciences and Prof. Latief Kazmi of Aligarh Muslim University, both of whom commended the academic rigour and practical relevance of the programme. The chief guest, Prof. M. J. Warsi, Dean of Academic Affairs, underscored the strategic importance of such capacity-building initiatives for strengthening research excellence within the university.
During the valedictory ceremony, several participants shared reflections on how the workshop's blend of theoretical insight and hands-on exercises would inform their ongoing research endeavours. The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aasim Mir, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, organising committee, and university administration for their unwavering support, and encouraged attendees to leverage their newly acquired skills in future scholarly pursuits.The session was compered by Ms. Tazeem Akhter, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics.
