Sadhotra exhorts women to play role in societal transformation, combating drug menace

JAMMU, May 3: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister, Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, today underscored the pivotal role of women in bringing about positive societal transformation and shaping the future of the nation. Addressing a gathering of women workers at Jallo Chak Ward No. 68 of Jammu Municipal Corporation which was organized by Mrs. Kusum Lata and Mrs. Sarla Kotwal, Mr Sadhotra exhorted them to come forward with increased participation in efforts to eradicate social evils, especially the growing drug menace, which threatens the future of our youth.
Mr. Sadhotra said that women empowerment has always been the cornerstone of the National Conference's political philosophy. The party has consistently championed the cause of gender equality and taken significant steps to empower women socially, economically and politically, he said and referred to women reservation in grassroots level democratic institutions besides 50 percent quota for girls in medical colleges during the tenures of National Conference governments, opening of Women Police Stations where women folk could express their grievances without any fear before the lady police officers.
Recalling various other initiatives taken in this direction, Mr. Sadhotra said that the National Conference was fully committed to ameliorating the condition of women and ensuring their empowerment across all spheres of life. Responding to issues raised by women such as timely disbursal of pensions to the elderly and destitute, economic upliftment, fair employment opportunities, shortage of drinking water, power, insanitation and BPL Ration Cards, problem of Aadhar Cards and above all rising inflation. Mr. Sadhotra assured that Omar Abdullah Government is very responsive to address the problems of the people effectively and with urgency. The local residents also complained that Jallo Chak is part of Ward No. 68 of JMC but it is not getting the facilities as other wards of the Municipal Corporation resulting in the basic necessaties of common people in this ward are being ignored in getting basic facilities like water, power, lanes, drains, sanitation etc. He emphasized on Urban Development Department to pay immediate attention to this ward so that the problems of the people are solved. He appreciated the demand of opening Govt School in this area.
Addressing the meeting, Mrs Satwant Dogra Provincial President Women Wing National Conference said "the strength of Nation lies in the strength of its women," Mrs. Satwant said, urging society to support and encourage the participation of women in every aspect of their empowerment and women folk should come forward to put check on domestic violance. Sadhotra also strongly denounced terrorism in all its forms, describing it as a grave threat to peace and humanity. He paid solemn homage to the victims of the recent Pahalgam carnage, expressing deep grief and solidarity with the bereaved families. He said such acts of brutality have no place in a civilized society and called for unity and resilience in the fight against terrorism. He hoped that the perpetrators of the dastardly and inhuman act will get exemplary punishment. The women leaders Ayesha Gupta and Pushpa Dorga also spoke on the ocassion.
