Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today held a condolence meeting to mourn the sad demise of internationally acclaimed visual artist and cultural icon Triloke Kaul, who passed away recently.
The condolence meeting, chaired by Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, was attended by a large number of artists, scholars, and staff members of the Academy. Rich tributes were paid to the towering contributions of Triloke Kaul in the fields of visual arts, design, and cultural preservation.
Remembering the legacy of the late artist, the speakers recalled his formative years in Shala Kadal, Srinagar, his advanced training in the fine arts at Baroda, and his lifelong dedication to enriching the cultural and artistic fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. As Director of the School of Design, he played a transformative role in the revival of Kashmiri design and handicrafts, infusing them with a modern sensibility while remaining rooted in traditional aesthetics.
His association with the Academy spanned several decades, during which he served on various expert committees and advisory panels.
Sonali Arun Gupta, Additional Secretary JKAACL, highlighted Kaul's unique style and dedication to the promotion of indigenous art forms. Dr. Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head (Jammu) of the Academy, termed Kaul "a cultural institution in himself," noting his commitment to the preservation of Kashmiri visual identity.
