BJP legislators demand timely redressal of Jammu's critical civic concerns

JAMMU, July 25: In a focused consultative meeting, BJP MLAs expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of essential public services in areas pertaining to Jammu Municipal Corporation . The Legislators unanimously resolved to take up these issues directly with the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory, seeking immediate and time-bound redressal to alleviate the hardships being faced by the people.
The Legislators highlighted the prolonged strike by Daily Wagers of the Power Development Department (PDD) as a matter of urgent public importance. The ongoing strike has disrupted electricity supply in several areas, severely affecting daily life. The MLAs emphasized that despite the availability of 342 vacant posts and a clear government policy on regularisation, the file remains unjustifiably pending with the Administrative Department, prolonging the crisis. They demanded that the issue be resolved without further delay and in the interest of public convenience.
The worsening drinking water supply under the Jal Shakti Department was also brought to attention. The MLAs expressed deep concern over the irregular and insufficient water distribution, especially amid the current spell of heat and humidity. They called for urgent administrative intervention to ensure continuous and clean water supply to all affected areas.
Equally alarming is the state of sanitation across Jammu, compounded by the strike of Municipal Committee workers. Accumulation of garbage, clogged drains, and stagnant water have led to unhygienic conditions, raising the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria. The MLAs urged the administration to initiate immediate negotiations with the striking sanitation staff and ensure proper cleanliness measures are restored at the earliest.
The repeated flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas of Jammu District due to clogged drains and lack of desilting were also raised. The BJP Legislatures demand timely redressal of Jammu's critical civic concerns pertaining to Jammu Municipal Corporation for urgently undertaking flood mitigation efforts, including short-term desilting and long-term drainage planning to prevent recurring damage.
The meeting was attended by Shri Sham Lal Sharma, Shri Vikram Randhawa, Shri Yudhvir Sethi, Shri Arvind Gupta, Shri Vikram Randhawa, and Shri Surinder Kumar, who reaffirmed their commitment to representing the public's voice and ensuring accountability at all levels of governance. The MLAs resolved to submit a formal memorandum to the Hon'ble Chief Minister in the coming days, outlining the key issues and pressing for urgent departmental responses.
