Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: The Udhampur Campus of the University of Jammu celebrated Rakshabandhan in a unique and impactful way by introducing "Vrikshabandhan," an innovative initiative that blended traditional values with a powerful message of plant protection. This special celebration redefined the festival's essence by linking the sacred bond of protection with the commitment to preserve and nurture nature.
As part of the event, students showcased their creativity by making eco-friendly 'Rakhis' using flowers and leaves. These green Rakhis symbolized a heartfelt promise to protect trees, highlighting that just as trees sustain human life, they too deserve our care, respect, and protection. In a symbolic act of unity with nature, students, faculty, and staff tied these Rakhis to trees, reinforcing their dedication to Mission Life (Lifestyle for Environment) and echoing the larger call to "Save and Protect the Environment for Future Security." This act fostered a deep sense of environmental kinship, encouraging everyone to view trees not merely as resources but as living beings worthy of love and guardianship.
The occasion also provided a platform for students to express their thoughts on the critical role trees play in combating climate change, enriching the collective understanding of environmental stewardship. Thus, Vrikshabandhan became more than just a festival-it emerged as a solemn pledge to cherish and protect the natural world that sustains all life.
Addressing the students, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector of Udhampur Campus, emphasized the profound significance of Rakshabandhan as a festival celebrating bonds of security, affection, and community. He urged that this spirit of protection be extended to the broader community of plants and animals, who are the true guardians of our environment and life on Earth. Prof. Sharma praised the students' innovative creation of Green Rakhis as a beautiful symbol of harmony between love and sustainability. The event concluded with a collective pledge from all participants to continue their commitment to safeguarding the environment, not only during Rakshabandhan but every day of the year, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
The event, successfully organized by Udhampur Campus, witnessed enthusiastic participation from all students, teaching, and non-teaching staff, demonstrating a strong, campus-wide commitment to environmental stewardship.
