Sadhotra visits GMC Jammu, enquires about health status of Chasoti cloudburst

JAMMU, Aug 16: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today visited GMC Hospital Jammu here to enquire about the health status of the injured pilgrims of the Machail Mata Yatra, who sustained injuries in the tragic cloudburst at Chasoti village in Kishtwar district.
Sadhotra interacted with the injured and their attendants, expressed solidarity with the suffering families, and wished them a speedy and complete recovery. He appreciated the medical teams for providing specialized treatment and hoped that the injured would continue to receive every possible assistance and the best available care.
He also lauded the visit of Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah to the affected area to personally take stock of the devastation caused by the natural calamity. He welcomed the government's announcement regarding ex-gratia relief of Rs. Two lacs to the next of kin of the deceased and financial assistance of Rs. One lac to grievously injured and Rs. Fifty thousand for minor injured, and moreover Rs. One lac for the fully damaged house, describing it as a step towards alleviating the pain and sufferings of the victims' families, notwithstanding the fact that no amount can compensate the precious lives and sufferings.
Expressing profound sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the tragedy, Sadhotra said,"the sudden and untimely departure of so many pilgrims has cast a deep shadow of grief over Jammu and Kashmir. The families who lost their loved ones have suffered an irreparable loss. In this hour of mourning, our hearts go out to every bereaved family. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace and may the Almighty give strength to the families to bear this unbearable pain."
The National Conference Additional General Secretary said that the entire
National Conference family stands shoulder to shoulder with the victims and their families in this tragic hour. "We share their pain, and our prayers and support will remain with them as they come to terms with this heart-wrenching calamity," he added.
Sadhotra appreciated the prompt response of the Omar Abdullah-led government, which immediately mobilized the administration and relief agencies to ensure timely evacuation, medical treatment, and assistance to the affected people. He said that the Chief Minister's personal outreach and sensitivity in rushing to the affected village reflects the government's commitment to stand by the people in times of adversity.
"The timely steps taken by the government to provide relief and care are commendable. It is in such moments of collective grief that the bond between the people and their representatives is truly tested. The Chief Minister's initiative has brought some solace to the distressed families," Sadhotra said.
Those who accompanied Sadhotra are Mohd Ayoub Malik Provincial Secretary, Master Mohd Aslam Chowdhary, Aiysha Gupta, Jatinder Singh Lucky Jimmy, Sahil Kerni District YNC President, Som Nath, Ashanand, Sewa Singh (Retd SSP).
