Div Com reviews Flood related preparedness, restoration of services in affected areas across Jammu Division

JAMMU, Aug 26: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today reviewed the flood related preparedness and necessary response mechanism put in place by the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti (PHE), Power Development Department, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu Municipal Corporation to handle the situation arisen due to torrential rains.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director, JPDCL, Commissioner JMC, Regional officer NHAI, GM Projects, NHIDCL Jammu, Chief Engineer PWD, Superintending Engineers Jal Shakti, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineer Department, officials from Urban Local Bodies and other concerned departments. Discussion was held on the flood preparedness action-plan and immediate restoration of essential services, wherever affected.
The Divisional Commissioner took stock of the steps taken by the department to ensure uninterrupted functioning of essential services of road connectivity, power and drinking water supply and restore the same, wherever disrupted due to incessant rains.
He asked the NHAI and Public Works Department to monitor the major bridges and identify alternate inner roads for movement of traffic on the National Highway. He directed the agencies to prioritize the functioning of roads to District HQs and hospitals.
Jal Shakti department was directed to ensure availability of clean drinking water in the region especially the remote and hilly habitations. He asked them to identify the alternate sources of drinking water in the flood affected areas.
The Managing Director Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited was directed to keep the men and machinery ready for restoration of the power supply, wherever affected.
ULB was directed to deploy dewatering pumps in the areas affected by flood and water logging.
Directions were also issued to all the District and sectoral officers to remain alert and do not leave their station.
It was further informed that additional funds have been released to all the District Administrations for emergency restoration works and other exigencies.
