Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29: BJP senior leader and former Vice Chairman, Balbir Ram Rattan, described the Indian Army as a ray of hope amid the devastating cloudburst and subsequent flash floods in the Jammu region. He called the Army's role a reflection of the soldiers' deep sensitivity toward the safety of fellow citizens and their unwavering commitment to the motherland.
He said that the Indian Army, with its exceptional bravery and compassion, has once again stepped into the field to carry out extensive rescue and relief operations across various areas of Jammu, standing as a shield for the nation and its people in their time of crisis.
Balbir Ram Rattan stated that the floods washed away many roads, disrupted communication systems, and submerged several areas in water. In such conditions, Army personnel immediately sprang into action, reaching remote and dangerous locations to save lives and provide assistance without leaving any stone unturned.
He highlighted one of the most notable operations in the Jammu-Pathankot sector, where the Army successfully rescued 308 civilians, including 50 children from an orphanage in R.S. Pura. Despite adverse weather and treacherous terrain, the Army acted swiftly and fearlessly, ensuring the safe evacuation of every individual.
The Army also took up the task of repairing the fourth bridge at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, to quickly restore access to the affected people.
In remote areas like Indri village in Akhnoor, where all communication was cut off, soldiers reached stranded families with essential relief materials and food. Sixteen critically injured civilians were airlifted using helicopters, showcasing the Army's agility and responsiveness.
Praising the Army's efforts, Balbir Ram Rattan said that once again, the Indian Army has proven to be the true protector of the people-standing strong, whether in peace or in crisis. Their courage, swift response, and humanitarian service during this disaster are symbols of their unwavering spirit and patriotism.
Balbir also mentioned that while local administration, police, and health departments are continuously working on restoring essential services on the ground, the Army is complementing their efforts by rescuing trapped people, providing first aid, and more. The Army is working in close coordination with civil administration, delivering commendable joint efforts.
