Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29: The recent flash floods in the Tawi River have caused damage to the Sitlee Filtration Plant, resulting in disruption of regular water supply to thousands of residents in Jammu West.
To assess the situation and review ongoing operations, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta today visited the plant along with senior officials.
Gupta was accompanied by XEn Civil City Division-I Tejinder Pal Singh, AEE Civil Pankaj Mohan Sharma, and JEs Civil Randip Singh, Amit Pal Singh, and Vikram Raina. From the Mechanical Wing, AEE Pankaj Sharma along with JEs Bhupinder Singh, Jagdev Singh, and Sunit Singh were also present.
During his inspection, Gupta reviewed the water purification process, operational machinery, and the extent of damage caused by the floods. He enquired about the challenges being faced in ensuring uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to the public.
Due to the damaged rising mains from Sitlee to Manda and Lohar, the water supply to several areas of Jammu West will remain affected.
Gupta advised the public to use water judiciously until full restoration is achieved.
Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Gupta said, "The Sitlee Filtration Plant is a critical lifeline for thousands of households in Jammu West and adjoining areas. Our priority is to restore full functionality at the earliest so that people receive clean and safe drinking water without disruption, especially during the monsoon season when contamination risks are high."
He emphasized the need for regular monitoring and upgradation of equipment to maintain efficiency.
"We are committed to strengthening the city's water supply infrastructure. Any gaps in functioning will be addressed promptly, and necessary support will be extended to the concerned departments to ensure smooth operations," he assured.
Gupta also commended the engineers and staff for their dedication in maintaining round-the-clock operations under challenging conditions. He urged officials to explore modern technologies in filtration and distribution to enhance resilience and minimize future disruptions.
Concluding his visit, Gupta reaffirmed his focus on improving civic amenities in Jammu West.
