JAMMU, Sept 1: Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Bahu Fort Jammu celebrated birth anniversary of Periyar Lalai Singh Yadav in the premises of Gurudwara Shri Guru Ravi Dass ji Maharaj Bahu Fort Jammu. While speaking on this occasion Sham Lal Basson Gen Secy GRDS Bahu Fort Jammu said that Periyar Lalai Singh Yadav was born on first Sept 1911 in Kathara village of Kanpur.His father Ch Gajju Singh was a farmer and associated with Arya Samaj. His Mother's name was Moola Devi. He completed middle school in 1928 and got married to Dulari devi in 1931. Basson further said that Lalai Singh is mostly recognized for translating EV Ramaswami Periyar 's book The Ramayana: A True Reading into Hindi as Sachchi Ramayana in 1968 which was banned by then Govt of Uttar Pradesh. Nevertheless, following a sustained legal challenge led by his counsel, the Allahabad High Court lifted ban and judgement subsequently affirmed the Supreme Court of India. Lalai Singh yadav embraced Buddhism in 1967.King Ashoka was his ideal hero.He established a publishing body named 'Ashoka Library' and put up his printing press which was named 'Sasta Press'. He wrote 5 plays, Nangamal Natak, Shambuk Slaughter, Sant Maya Sacrifice , Eklavya and Nag Yajna Drama. He also wrote books like Religious robbery on exploited, 2 Pilitical robbery on exploited and How to end Social Unequality. After seven years of tireless research which involved traveling across country looking for Periyar 's Lalai Singh 's published, unpublished and out of print works, letters, diary entries and so on , Dharamvir Yadav 'Gagan' has published a five volume set of Singh's writing and speeches. Periyar Lalai Singh died on 7th Feb 1993 at the age of 81.
