Dryland Agriculture Centre organizes Stakeholders’ Workshops, Interaction meetings

Jammu, Sept 2: All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture (AICRPDA), Rakh Dhiansar of SKUAST-Jammu organized a series of Stakeholders’ Workshops cum Interaction Meetings to discuss contingency crop plans to combat the prevailing abberent weather conditions.
These workshops and interaction meetings were organised in various districts of Jammu province viz. Kathua, Jammu, Samba and Udhampur in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). During these Workshops cum Interaction Meetings, the stakeholders including the Scientists from the KVKs’ of domain districts and officers of line departments were sensitized and made aware about contingency crop plans and different climate resilient technologies developed by the AICRPDA, Rakh Dhiansar Centre to avert crop losses and sustainability of crop productivity in rainfed areas of Jammu region under inclement weather conditions.
Dr. A.P. Singh, Chief Scientist and Incharge briefed the stakeholders about the mandates of AICRPDA centre and deliberated on various climatic stresses such as early season drought, mid-season drought, terminal drought, etc and management of all these situations through the adoption of various real time contingency measures.
Besidesthis, he also focused on the technological interventions w.r.t. preparedness to conserve moisture during dry spells to avoid the moisture stress related losses during the crop growing period. Dr. A.P singh further discussed various Landuse Systems for rainfed ecologies to sustain soil and crop productivity for climate proofing of agricultural activities.
Dr. Jai Kumar, Chief Scientist (Agronomy), AICRPDA, gave an elaborative description of various Agro-technologies developed by AICRPDA Centre, SKUAST-Jammu for Sustainable Crop Production under rainfed Conditions. He focused on the conserving the moisture in the root zone by adopting various in-situ (Compartmental Bunding, Broad Bed and Furrow method(BBF), Ridge and Furrow, Mulching,etc and ex -situ moisture conservation (small low cost water harvesting structures etc,) technologies . Dr. Rohit Sharma , Scientist(Agronomy) , AICRPDA, shared insights from NICRA Project and briefed various climate resilient technologie for improving crop productivity under Rainfed conditions. Dr. Brinder Singh, Chief Scientis, AICRPDA discussed nutrient management in crops under rainfed conditions developed through experimental findings from Long term manurial experiment. Also Er. Sunny raina , delivered a lecture on smart irrigation approaches for sustainable crop production .
In these workshops, brain storming discussions were done to clear the doubts of the participants, besides feedback was also received from the field functionaries for submission of the same to the AICRPDA, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad in order to formulate future research roadmap. Chief Agriculture Officers’ of Department of Agriculture from the respective Districts on behalf of the participating officials thanked the AICRPDA scientists for their relentless services and providing them timely valuable information and appealed to organize such activities at regular intervals in future also.
The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Jai Kumar, to the participants , experts and other stakeholders involved in these workshops.
