GDC Sidhra students observe Teachers’ Day
9/5/2025 7:03:58 PM

early times report

Jammu, Sept 5: Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra, despite facing unprecedented challenges due to the recent floods, marked Teachers’ Day with solemnity and gratitude. Since the college premises remain submerged and unusable for any gathering, the programme was thoughtfully organized at Nescafe, Sidhra, symbolizing the resilience and determination of both students and faculty to uphold traditions even in testing times.
This year’s observance was centered around the theme: “Teachers: Our Strength in Adversity – A Tribute by Students of GDC Sidhra on Teachers’ Day.” Reflecting the present reality of displacement and uncertainty, the students foregrounded their gratitude through the powerful message: “Drowned in Adversity, But Your Guidance Keeps Us Afloat.” The program began with a nukkad natak performed by students of the college outside Nescafe Sidhra. The theme of the nukkad natak not only captured the current crisis but also highlighted the unwavering role of teachers in guiding students through hardship.
The programme further included speeches and poetry recitations by students and staff of the college, underscoring the bond between teachers and learners as one of hope and resilience. Students also expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the tireless efforts of the worthy Principal, Prof. Seema Mir. Students highlighted that her resilience and commitment have been a source of strength and inspiration, motivating them to remain hopeful and dedicated even when the institution itself stands disrupted. “The students also undertook a pledge to uphold the honour of their teachers and to extend due respect to them at all times.
On the occasion, worthy Principal of the College, Prof. Seema Mir, addressed the gathering and apprised the students of the present condition of the institution and the challenges posed by the flood. At the same time, she encouraged everyone to remain positive, assuring that adversity, though difficult, brings opportunities for growth, solidarity, and renewal.
She praised the enthusiasm and commitment of the students, who, despite the displacement and uncertainty, came forward to honour their teachers with such dedication.
The observance concluded with a collective reaffirmation that GDC Sidhra will continue to rise stronger from the crisis, with teachers and students standing together as pillars of strength for one another.
