GCOE Jammu celebrates International Literacy Day with series of events

Jammu, Sept 8: Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu celebrated International Literacy Day with great enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of Education and Literacy in today's society.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal GCOE Jammu and Professor Dr. Renu Nanda, Current State Commissioner, Rangers- Bhartiya Scouts and Guides Jammu and Kashmir Unit as the Chief Guest.
The celebration featured series of activities i.e. Essay Writing Competition, Storytelling Competition, Creating Wall of Fame, Creating Book Bank and enrolling volunteers for Rover Ranger Unit in College. Students showcased their literary skills and creativity and participated with great zeal.
In Essay Writing Competition Tanshiq Sumbaria stood first, Peehu and Manvi Sharma stood second while Simranjeet Kaur stood third. Where as in Storytelling Competition Mrinali and Saiyushi secured first position. In a very unique concept Wall of Fame was created and Students actively participated.
During the event, Professor Dr. Renu Nanda encouraged the efforts of the students and emphasized the significance of literacy in personal and societal development. Following the competitions, she inaugurated the Rover Rangers unit at GCOE Jammu, marking a new chapter in the college's commitment to community service and youth development.
Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar appreciated the efforts of NSS Team and she stated that “establishment of the Rover Rangers unit is expected to provide students with opportunities to engage in community service, leadership development, and skill-building activities”. Professor Nanda also awarded the Rangers for their activities, recognizing their contributions to the community. Prof. Satish Sharma and Dr. Shalini Rana were the Judges on the events.
The entire programme was conducted by Dr. Shubhra Jamwal NSS PO and her team Prof. Deepali Devi, Dr. Ambica Sharma and Dr. Rajinder Kour, Dr. Devinder Kour, Dr. Sushma Bala and Dr. Rakesh Bharti were present on the occasion.
