Early Times Report
POONCH, Sept 8: Hon'ble MLA Haveli, Sh. Ajaz Ahmed Jan, today laid the foundation stone for the new Arts & Humanities Block at Government Degree College, Poonch. The project, estimated at a cost of INR 2.50 crores, marks a significant step towards enhancing educational infrastructure in the region.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh, XEN PWD, senior officials, faculty members, and a large gathering of students.
Addressing the occasion, Hon'ble MLA Sh. Ajaz Ahmed Jan reiterated his commitment to creating high-quality infrastructure and assured that more resources will be provided to ensure the establishment of modern laboratories, smart classrooms, and auditoriums of metropolitan standards. He emphasized the vital role played by the college in educating students from remote and border areas, pledging to continue efforts for the best possible educational environment.
The MLA recalled his earlier visit to the college during which he had witnessed the damage caused by unprovoked shelling from across the border on 7th/8th May 2025. At that time, he had promised to support the development of hi-tech smart classrooms and modern facilities, and he assured the gathering that funds for the same will be sanctioned within a few days to initiate the project without delay.
He praised the sincere and dedicated efforts of the faculty and administration under the leadership of Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh, which have contributed to the college's remarkable success. The MLA highlighted the institution's achievements, including NAAC "A" grade accreditation, gold medals in academics and sports, and victories in inter-college competitions. He further announced that a modern gymnasium will soon be established in the college, with directions already issued for preparation of its DPR.
Prominent guests also spoke on the occasion, appreciating the college's long-standing reputation since its establishment in 1955 and assured their support for further academic and infrastructural advancement.
