GDC Kathua hosts Startup India Challenge Boot Camp

KATHUA, Sept 10: Under the guidance of worthy principal Dr. Savi Bahl, the Department of Commerce and Business Administration of GDC Kathua successfully organized a Boot Camp on the Startup India Challenge in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) on 10th September 2025. The event aimed to foster innovation, encourage entrepreneurial thinking, and equip students with the tools and knowledge needed to engage with the Startup India initiative.
The one-day intensive boot camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from over hundred students across various streams, reflecting the growing interest in entrepreneurship and startup culture among the youth. The program commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Pinkey, Assistant Professor in Commerce, who extended a warm welcome to the resource persons from JKEDI, extinguished guests, faculty members, and participating students. The sessions were inaugurated by Mr. Dheeraj Handoo, Faculty at JKEDI and District Nodal Officer Kathua, who emphasized the importance of skill development and entrepreneurial mindset in today's economy.
The representatives from JKEDI conducted interactive sessions focusing on the objectives and benefits of the Startup India Challenge, key steps in starting a venture, business model development, government schemes and funding opportunities for startups along with real-life case studies of successful startups from the region. In the last session, around fifteen students participated in the Idea Pitching competition, which was adjudged by officials from JKEDI, J&K Bank NABARD and one representative from the college Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener, Career Counselling Cell. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Meenakshi, Head Department of BBA. The program was coordinated by Dr. Pinkey, Dr. Meenakshi, Dr. Rahul Gupta, Prof. Manisha and Dr. Tejeshwar Singh of Commerce and BBA Department. The principal of the college, Dr. Savi Bahl appreciated the efforts of Commerce and BBA Department and JKEDI for organizing this event and encouraged students to actively explore entrepreneurial opportunities as a viable career path.
