IGNOU Jammu hosts tree plantation drive under Swachhata Pakhwada; MLA Vikram Randhawa plants saplings

JAMMU, Sept 12: Jammu Regional Centre of IGNOU is observing Swachhata Pakhwada w.e.f. September 1, 2025 till September 15, 2025 holding a series of events and activities to inculcate a sense of cleanliness and hygiene among the staff, students, stakeholders of the University and general masses.
In a commitment to environmental stewardship, a tree plantation drive was organized at IGNOU Regional Campus, Bantalab under the leadership of Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu. Hon'ble MLA, Shri Vikram Randhawa was the Chief Guest on the occasion and planted Gulmohar saplings in the Campus garden. Shri Romesh Sharma, Veteran Badminton Champion of Jammu was the Special Guest. A number of students and their parents also participated in the drive enthusiastically.
Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director, informed that this tree plantation drive aims to raise awareness about the critical need for green cover and combat climate change by planting new saplings.
Dr. Asha Upadhyay, Deputy Director, informed that the varieties of indigenous trees and plants, including Rudraksh, Neem, Gulmohar are being planted to enhance local biodiversity and air quality.
"We believe a sustainable future starts with collective action and we are excited to see IGNOU extended family come together for this important cause", said Dr. Zeba, Assistant Regional Director.
"This plantation drive is more than just planting trees; it's about sowing the seeds of hope and responsibility for the generations to come", said S. Tejinder Pal Singh, Deputy Registrar.
"Being a part of this event at IGNOU Jammu campus on this special initiative of National importance allows us to make a tangible difference in our community and each sapling planted is an investment in our future, and I are proud to be a part of this effort", said Vikram Randhawa, Hon'ble MLA.
