early times report

Jammu, Sept 15: Principal Secretary, Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma today inaugurated “Hindi Pakhwada” Celebration Programs during the inaugural event organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from writers, scholars, academicians, and admirers of Hindi language and literature.
In his address, Brij Mohan Sharma lauded the role of JKAACL in documenting and promoting Hindi language and literature through its journals, books, and other publications. He recalled that in 2020, the Government of J&K declared Hindi as one of the official languages alongside Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, and English. Underscoring the importance of Hindi as a symbol of unity and identity, he announced that a calligraphy centre will shortly be established to train the younger generation in writing Hindi, Urdu, and other languages, thereby enriching the visual art scene of J&K. He further emphasized the responsibility of institutions like JKAACL in creating platforms for young writers and scholars to contribute to the growth of Hindi literature.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, extended greetings on Hindi Diwas and highlighted its historical significance, recalling that on 14 September 1949, Hindi was adopted as the official language of India. She also underlined the Academy’s ongoing efforts to promote and preserve Hindi alongside other regional languages of Jammu & Kashmir.
As part of the academic session, Prof. Chanchal Dogra presented a scholarly paper on the status of Hindi in the contemporary world, its relevance in education, technology, and administration, and its role in fostering cultural harmony. Dr. Nirmal Vinod, in his paper, spoke on the literary traditions of Hindi, stressing the need to preserve its classical heritage while embracing modern creative expressions.
Earlier, the programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, followed by the felicitation of guests. To invoke divine blessings, Dr. Chanchal Sharma, Editor Hindi JKAACL, rendered a soulful Saraswati Vandana.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks presented by Sonali Arun Gupta, Additional Secretary JKAACL, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, distinguished speakers, writers, media, and the audience. The proceedings were conducted with flair by Shri Rajkumar Behrupia.
