Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 16: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, today made a clarion call to non-governmental and philanthropic organizations to supplement the governmental initiatives in providing relief to the people affected by recent torrential rains, flash floods, and cloudbursts across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at a relief distribution camp at Janipur here, organized by National Conference District President Mr. Chander Mohan Sharma, Mr. Sadhotra lauded the humanitarian gesture, terming it as an act that strengthens the bond of compassion and solidarity with the victims in their hour of distress. He said such collective efforts play a crucial role in mitigating hardships of those who have suffered irreparable loss due to natural calamities.
Mr. Sadhotra said that the Omar Abdullah-led government has been on its toes since the onset of the crisis and has been undertaking Herculean efforts to reach out to the affected areas and people by providing relief and assistance. He emphasized that despite the extensive work being carried out by the administration, the involvement of civil society and socio-political organizations can make a decisive difference in easing the burden on distressed families.
"Governmental support, though substantial, always needs to be complemented by people's participation. This is where non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and responsible citizens can step in to share the responsibility of humanitarian service," he said .
The former Minister expressed deep solidarity with those whose houses, crops, and sources of livelihood have been damaged due to the unprecedented downpour and flash floods, and said the magnitude of destruction is such that it cannot be addressed by governmental efforts alone. Hence this requires the collective will of society to stand united with the sufferers, he added.
Lauding the efforts of the National Conference District unit led by Mr. Chander Mohan Sharma for organizing the relief camp, Mr. Sadhotra said such initiatives send out a strong message of hope and togetherness in the face of adversity. He appealed to people in general to pool in resources for providing food, clothing, medicines, and other essential items to the victims.
He expressed optimism that Jammu and Kashmir, with its long tradition of communal harmony and mutual support, will once again rise to the challenge and overcome the present crisis through collective grit and compassion.
"National Conference is committed to serving the people and will stand shoulder to shoulder with them in rebuilding lives disrupted by the fury of floods," Mr. Sadhotra affirmed.
"This is not just a moral obligation of every conscientious citizen," he said. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Satwant Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu, Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban, Raghubir Singh Manhas District President Jammu Rural, Randhir Singh Chib District Secretary, Rakesh Kumar Sharma YNC President Jammu Rural A, Gurnam Singh Block President, Ashwani Charak Block President, Subash Bhagat Block President, Dr Rajinder Sharma, Ved Prakash Sharma Organizer, Subash Choudhary, Raman Sharma, Aisha Bhan, Pinki Khalsa, Rita Gupta, Anju Bala, Shallu Sharma, Geeta Mehra, Sanjana Devi.
