Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Sept 20: Udhampur Campus (Garnai-Lotta), University of Jammu, organized a two-day donation and distribution drive to extend support to the flood-affected families of village Urlian (Garnai-Lotta).
In alignment with the mantra of "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhina, Sarve Santu Niramaya", donation points were established across the campus to facilitate contributions from students, teaching, and non-teaching staff. The response was overwhelming, with generous donations of clothes, ration supplies, groceries, hygiene kits, candles, bedding essentials, and stationery items.
The collected materials were systematically segregated, packed, and distributed by campus volunteers among the flood-affected families of the hamlet of Urlian, located near Udhampur Campus. Special emphasis was placed on addressing immediate and essential needs.
Hygiene kits were provided to ensure sanitation and health; ration and grocery items supported daily household requirements; stationery materials fulfilled basic educational needs of children; and bedding with clothing extended warmth, comfort, and protection to the affected households.
The initiative not only reflected the spirit of solidarity and service but also reinforced the university's commitment to social responsibility during times of crisis.
The initiative was undertaken under the guidance of Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu, who virtually addressed the NSS volunteers. He emphasized that service to society is an integral responsibility of every student and encouraged them to internalize the spirit of seva in their daily lives. Prof. Sharma highlighted that even small acts of kindness-whether through donating essentials, extending help during crises, or volunteering for community causes-play a vital role in nurturing responsible, compassionate, and socially committed citizens.
The initiative was carried out following directions of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and supervised by Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu.
Prof. Sharma appreciated the students and staff of Udhampur Campus for undertaking this noble cause and encouraged students to embrace the spirit of service in their daily lives, reminding them that every act of kindness-whether donating essentials, helping in times of crisis, or volunteering for a cause-contributes to shaping responsible and compassionate citizens.
