One-Day Boot Camp on Agrithon at GDC Samba

SAMBA, Sept 20: The Department of Botany, SPPND Government Degree College, Samba, in collaboration with SKUAST Jammu, successfully organized a One-Day Boot Camp on Agrithon under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college. The event aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among students, with a special focus on agriculture-based solutions to contemporary challenges.
Dr. Anil Bhatt, Professor Agricultural Economics and Associate Director Research, SKUAST Jammu was the resource person of the event. He enlightened the participants on key areas such as agri-entrepreneurship, modern farming techniques, start-up incubation opportunities, and government schemes supporting agricultural innovation. Interactive sessions, brainstorming activities, thought provoking talks and success stories encouraged students to present their innovative ideas aligned with the concept of "Agrithon." The resource person informed students about JKCIP (Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement Project), an initiative, launched in Jammu & Kashmir with an aim to enhance the competitiveness and climate resilience of the agricultural sector and its allied sectors, focusing on improving agribusiness, empowering farmers, and fostering sustainable growth within the region.
The event also included a pitching competition at the end which provided students with an opportunity to explore creative ideas, problem-solving strategies, and sustainable solutions in the agri-tech sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mala Bhasin, HOD Botany, highlighted the importance of empowering youth with skills in innovation and entrepreneurship to contribute towards rural development and self-reliance. Senior faculty members Dr. Harjeet Kour from Botany, Dr Meenakshi Thakur, HOD Sociology and Dr. Nidhi from Zoology were present during the event.
Students from various departments like Botany, Zoology, Sociology, Education and Commerce actively participated, making the program a great success. The formal welcome address was delivered by Prof. Surbhi Dubey, HOD Biotechnology. The event concluded with an interactive feedback session and distribution of certificates to the participants.
