BLSKS organizes workshop on “Duggar Folk Culture”

JAMMU, Sept 20: To promote the rich traditional culture of J&K, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) organized workshop cum rehearsal on Duggar Folk Culture title Two Days " Maa Sukrala Duggar Sanskrit Mahostav 2025" under in its Friday series Musical Play " Sada Virsa" at Durga Bhawan Jammu in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, National College of Computer Education, Janipur Jammu & Sangam Tru Art Production for Promotion revival of dying culture of J&K. The programe was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Sh.V.K.Magotra, former regional director, directorate of field publicity , Government of India, Dr. Tara Singh Charak , Former Deputy Director ,J&K Health Department, Mukesh Singh , Renowned Media Person J&K were the Guest of Honor .BLSKS artistes participated as folk theatre experts of various shades of J&K. Sh.Magotra informed that the work shop on Duggar culture, first of its kind to preserve the rich culture of J& K organised by staging plays of all parts of the JKUTto generate awareness among the masses about eradiction of various social evils through theatre/drama which are still very powerful medium of communication. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest lauded the role of Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan-(NGO) and underlined the importance of staging such plays and workshops. Dr.Tara Singh Charak , Former Deputy Director ,J&K Health Department, also spoke on the subject and also urged the artists/cultural organizations to contribute in enriching awareness of the cultural heritage of the country and inspiring the younger generation to follow the footprints of their elders in preserving the composite culture of the Nation. Jammu, the land of the Dogras also called as Duggar is rich in it's heritage in terms of it's unique culture comprising of the various components from the time immemorial. the Duggar is not only world famous for the matchless bravery, boldness and valour of it's people but also for it's historical and uninterrupted cultural flow exposed in the form of the folklores, rituals, customs, lifestyle, folk arts, folk dances and folk -literature transmitted orally from one generation to the next. Leaders of Various Folk groups participated during workshop and five experts of folk theater gave tips on Folk Theatre. The main presentation of the Two Days Sanskriti Mahaostav will be unveiled on 21th & 22th Sept 2025 At Govt. Hr Sec. Schhol , Billawar & Govt. high School Sukrala Devi , Billawar J&K.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr.M L Dogra , Chairman BLSKS expressed happiness to organize two days Sanskriti Mohotsav at highlighting the history of the Sukrala Mata temple based on Pujari Shiv Nandan's prophecy of a stone slab emerging from a spring, which locals began to worship, and the story of Madho Singh, an exiled prince of Chamba, who, after falling ill while hunting, made a vow to build the temple to gain his kingdom back. The shrine is believed to be the abode of Goddess Mal Devi, an incarnation of Sharda Devi, where the goddess manifested in the form of a stone slab. The temple was constructed by Madho Singh, with the entire building material carried from Chamba on foot by the prince and his family. Dr.Dogra also highlighted the aims & objectives of the programme with special emphasis on cleanliness as despite many years of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, we have has not been able to make considerable progress in the waste management front. In JKUT, many households and shopkeepers were provided with two color-coded dustbins to encourage waste segregation, but not much progress has been made in both sensitizing people to segregate waste, or managing waste collection and disposal properly.
Welcoming the dignitaries Sh.K K Joshi , Vice Chairman BLSKS explained aims & objectives of the programme which have been assigned to the Sansthan for betterment of society, highlighted the importantnce of programe . The singers, musician and actors who performed were Usha Handoo, Zulekha Bano ,Rajni Gupta, K.K.Joshi, Himanshi Dalotra, Rajan Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Pashi, Bindia Okheda, Naiya Meenia, Poly Devi, Sanjeev Kumar Sodhi. This workshop coordinator Master Deepak Kumar presented vote of thanks for successful conduction of the program.
