Gandhi Global Family celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

Jammu, Oct 2: Gandhi Global Family (GGF) J&K today organized a function to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at the historic Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Jammu. The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, with Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, presiding over the ceremony and leading the gathering in paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
In his address, Shri Ramesh Kumar urged students and youth to imbibe Gandhian values in their everyday lives to build a peaceful and harmonious society. He highlighted the timeless relevance of non-violence, a cornerstone of Gandhi’s philosophy, particularly in the present global context. He further emphasized the importance of promoting national integration and equitable development of all sections of society. Stressing on Gandhi’s personal commitment to cleanliness, he encouraged the gathering to adopt cleanliness of self and surroundings as a fundamental civic responsibility.
Dr. S. P. Varma, President of Gandhi Global Family J&K, conveyed his message from Srinagar, calling for the strengthening of global brotherhood and peace.
He reiterated that simplicity, non-violence, truthfulness, self-reliance and compassion, which form the core of Gandhian philosophy, offer practical solutions to address many of the contemporary global challenges.
The day also marked the observance of International Non-Violence Day 2025. Students from various schools and colleges highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to world peace and non-violence through speeches and presentations. The students also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. The event was attended by people from all walks of life, including students, teachers, senior citizens and other dignitaries, who joined in offering rich floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
A special felicitation ceremony was also held during the event, wherein prominent social activists were honoured by Shri Ramesh Kumar for their exemplary services during humanitarian crises, particularly post Operation Sindoor and the Jammu floods.
The awardees included Mrs. Summi Sahi Seth, Mrs. Renu Anthony, Mrs. Joginder Kaur, Dr. Jyoti Malhotra, Mrs. Punit Kaur, Mrs. Neetu Bali, Dr. Perivinder Kaur, Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Er. S. K. Vaid, Sh. Sharat Sharma, Sh. Bhanu Pratap Singh, S. Gurdeep Singh Comrade, Er. Dalbir Singh Chib and Shri Amit Varma.
The day’s proceedings were ably conducted by Dr. Perivinder Kaur, member of GGF Women Jammu. Mrs. Renu Anthony, also a member of GGF Women Jammu, delivered the vote of thanks. A comprehensive report on the recent humanitarian efforts by Gandhi Global Family J&K during Operation Sindoor and the Jammu floods was presented by Mrs. Summi Sahi Seth Vice President, GGF Women Jammu.
The event was organised under the overall supervision of the organising committee, comprising Dr. Dinesh Gupta, Dr. Robin Gill, Shri Manish Joshi, Er. Ankush Varma, Er. Satish Vaid, Shri Raj Kumar, Shri Ved Verma, Shri Gopal Sharma and Shri Amit Varma ensuring the event's smooth and dignified execution.
