Mushaira-cum-Cultural Programme on Jashan-e-Diwali held at GCW Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Oct 19: The Department of Urdu and Music of Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur organized a Tamseeli Mushaira-cum-Cultural Programme on the occasion of Jashan-e-Diwali under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the college premises today.
The event was held under the patronage of the Principal of the College, Dr. Nalini Pathania, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The celebration began with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by a Saraswati Vandana presented by the students of the Department of Music. A colorful cultural programme was presented, featuring Urdu, Sanskrit & Punjabi poetry recitations, ghazals, devotional and traditional dance performances that showcased India's rich cultural diversity.
In the Mushaira, students and faculty members presented their Urdu, Sanskrit & Hindi poetry on themes such as Diwali, peace, harmony, and national integration.The prominent performers included Dr. Mool Raj, Prof. Yash Paul, Dr Shahid Iqbal besides budding poets, Sania, Teesha, Sonam Seth, Shaeen Akhter, Asha Thakur, Nagma Chandail, Anam Amina, Pooja Chuhan, Shaheena, Rubia, and Laiba Ashraf. The poetic expressions received warm applause and appriciation from the audience.
In the cultural program, devotional, Dogri folk, and Punjabi folk dances were added to the festivities. The energetic performances by students at the festival dedicated to Jashn-e-Diwali were also worth watching.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Pathania, in her inspiring speech, congratulated the Departments of Urdu and Music for organizing such a vibrant and inclusive event. She emphasized that festivals like Diwali symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and celebrating them through cultural and literary activities nurtures creativity, unity, and mutual respect among students.
She also encouraged students to preserve India's composite culture (Ganga- Jamuni -Tahezeeb) through active participation in such artistic events. She further stated that celebrating Jashan-e-Diwali through art, poetry, and music is a beautiful way to strengthen the spirit of togetherness.
The entire event was coordinated under the guidance of Heads of the Departments of Urdu and Music, who extended their gratitude to the Principal for her constant encouragement and support.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by HoD Urdu, Dr. Mool Raj and Tasneem-Ul-Nisa student of Sem 7th, besides formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shahid Iqbal Department of Urdu. As many as 275 students witnessed the occasion.
Besides, the event was graced by the presence of Dr. Monika Gupta, Dr. Yash Paul Singh Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Prof, Swarna Devi, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Dr. Kamaldeep Kour, Prof. Yash Paul, Dr. Om Parkash, Prof. Pardeep Singh, Dr, Swati Dutt, Dr. Anita Kumari, Dr. Neha Antal, Dr. Madhvi Bhardwaj, Dr. Sushma Choudhary, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Prof. Yash Kumar, Prof. Sandesh Kumar, Prof. Simran Khajuria and other Teaching and Non Teaching staff members.
