early times report

Jammu, Oct 25: Government Degree College, R.S. Pura, organized an insightful guest lecture on the topic “Panch Kosh as a Source of Character Building: Understanding the Five Layers of Human Existence” to promote holistic development and self-awareness among students. The event was held under the esteemed patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, Principal of the College. The lecture was jointly organized by the IQAC, Department of Botany and Department of Economics as part of its ongoing academic and value-based learning initiatives. The resource person for the session was Prof. Jasbir Singh from Department of Economics, University of Jammu who enlightened the audience about the concept of Panch Kosh — the five sheaths of human existence as described in ancient Indian philosophy: Annamaya Kosh (physical layer), Pranamaya Kosh (vital energy), Manomaya Kosh (mental layer), Vijnanamaya Kosh (intellectual layer), and Anandamaya Kosh (blissful layer). The speaker emphasized how understanding and nurturing each of these layers leads to the development of a balanced personality and strong moral character. The session highlighted the relevance of traditional Indian wisdom in modern life, especially in fostering emotional stability, ethical behavior, and holistic well-being.
Principal appreciated the efforts of the organizing departments for conducting such an enlightening lecture that connects students with India’s philosophical heritage and contributes to their overall personality development. About ninety students and faculty members, Dr. Neena Gupta, Dr. Anupama Pandotra, Dr. Jasmeet Kaur, Prof. Radhika Mahajan, Dr. Sudesh Kumar, Dr. Shelly Kalsi, Dr. Akriti Parihar and Dr. Kiran Lata attended the lecture.
The event concluded with an interactive session where students actively participated and expressed their reflections on the topic. The Resource person was introduced by Prof. Rajinder Sharma, Head of Department of Botany. Welcome address was given by Dr. Neeti Chibber and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shivani Manchanda.
