12/30/2025 6:50:56 PM

early times report

Chandigarh, Dec 30: The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women observed Bal Veer Diwas to commemorate the unparalleled courage and supreme sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, whose martyrdom stands as an enduring symbol of bravery, resilience and moral fortitude.
As part of the observance, the NSS volunteers carried out extensive awareness drives within their homes, neighbourhoods and surrounding localities. Through meaningful interactions with children, the volunteers highlighted the significance of Bal Veer Diwas and the timeless values it upholds. A special emphasis was laid on generating awareness about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In an age-appropriate and sensitive manner, children were educated about personal safety, the concepts of good touch and bad touch, and the importance of reporting any form of abuse. The volunteers also addressed the issue of child labour, drawing attention to its adverse impact on children and the legal provisions in place to curb the practice.
They sensitised young minds about child rights, underscoring the importance of dignity, safety, education and freedom from exploitation.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the NSS volunteers for their dedication and sensitivity in reaching out to children and families at the grassroot level.
She commended their efforts in spreading awareness about Bal Veer Diwas, child rights, POCSO Act and child labour, emphasising that informed communities and responsible citizenship are vital for nurturing a safe, just and empowering environment for children.
