AGM elects BR Sharma as chairman, Dr Bhan patron of IIPA

JAMMU, Jan 31: At the 47th Annual General Body of Indian Institute of Regional Branch (J&K Regional Branch ( IIPA- JK RB) was held here today, Dr Ashok Bhan, IPS (Retd) was nominated as the Patron of the branch and B.R. Sharma, was unanimously re- elected as Chairman for the next two years.
The office bearers elected are Er. J. B. S. Johar - Vice Chairman (Jammu); Dr. G. N. Qasba - Vice Chairman (Kashmir); K. B. Jandial,- Vice Chairman (Central); Prof. Alka Sharma - Honorary Secretary; Vikrant Kuthiala - Honorary Treasurer; Prof. Anil Gupta - Joint Secretary (Jammu); G.M. Andrabi - Joint Secretary (Kashmir); Er. M. M. Gupta - Director, Seminars; Manoj Kumar Pandita - Joint Director, Seminars (Jammu); and Prof. Nasir Iqbal Bhat - Joint Director, Seminars (Kashmir).
Dr. Arun Manhas, Director Industries, Jammu, and a life member of the IIPA -JK RB conducted the elections as the Returning Officer.
BR Sharma nominated a 15-member Executive Committee. They are Kuldeep Khoda, A.M. Watali, Dr. C.M. Seth, Prof. Rekha Choudhary, Prem Gupta, Manoj Prabhakar, Khawaja Bashir Ahmed, Narinder Khajuria, Seema Bhari, Rajeshwar Singh, Vinod Kumar Padha, Ansuya Jamwal, Nissar Ahmed, Bashir Ahmad Shah and Mubashir Amin Khan.
Prof. Alka Sharma, Honorary Secretary, presented the Annual Report highlighting the activities of the previous year. She stated that the number of quality programmes held in 2025 was higher than in 2024. Prof. Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary, presented the Statement of Accounts for the financial year 2024-25 on behalf of Shri Vikrant Kuthiala, Honorary Treasurer. Prof. Alka Sharma further highlighted that the IIPA-JK RB has been granted registration under Section 12AB(1)(b) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 by the Income Tax Department for a period of ten years, i.e., from Assessment Year 2027-28 to 2036-37. The development was highly appreciated by the House, and after due deliberation, the AGM unanimously approved both the reports.
In his address, Chairman B. R. Sharma, while appreciating the work of the Chapter over the last two years, put forth the blueprints of forthcoming programmes with regard to capacity building, inclusive development, and research initiatives to be undertaken. He stated that the thrust would be on expanding outreach programmes, engaging the youth, and strengthening collaboration with academic institutions
In his address, Patron Dr. Ashok Bhan expressed his happiness with the performance of the Branch and added that it holds great potential to achieve even better results in the future. He noted that the year 2028 will mark the Golden Jubilee of the J&K Regional Branch and emphasized that the occasion should be celebrated in a befitting manner by organizing mega programmes in both Jammu & Kashmir. For this purpose, he urged all the members to come forward, take initiative and participate in the activities of the branch.
The AGM was attended by over 70 members including members from Kashmir through video conference.
