Department of Horticulture participates in Kisan Mela

Jammu, Feb 11: The Department of Horticulture, Jammu actively participated in the Kisan Mela 2026 organized at SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha, featuring a grand Fruit Exhibition and display of advanced horticulture technologies under the overall guidance of the Director Horticulture, Jammu, Jenab Gul Sayed.
The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, who appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture and Allied Departments in promoting innovative and sustainable farming practices across the Union Territory.
On the occasion, the Department of Horticulture, Jammu set up an impressive Departmental Stall, showcasing high-quality fruit samples from different districts, improved planting material, and information on ongoing schemes such as MIDH, PMKSY, HADP, JKCIP and other flagship programmes aimed at enhancing farmers’ income.
The stall attracted a large number of farmers, entrepreneurs and visitors who interacted with departmental officers and experts to gain firsthand knowledge about modern horticulture practices, high-density plantation, protected cultivation and value addition.
During the event, Director Horticulture, Jammu, Sh. Gul Sayed interacted with various horticulture start-ups and entrepreneurs, encouraging them to adopt innovative approaches, promote value addition and explore new market linkages. He emphasized the importance of start-ups in strengthening the horticulture sector and generating employment opportunities for youth in the region.
The Director was accompanied by Joint Director Horticulture, Sh. Salil Gupta; Deputy Director Central, Sh. Mukesh Sharma; Chief Horticulture Officer, Sh. Rakesh Kumar Kotwal; CCI, Sh. Sanjeev Kumar; NRO, Sh. Satish Kumar; Assistant Director Sh. Sunil Gupta, DL-SMSs; MCC Smt.Sureshta Gour and HDOs of different districts of the Horticulture Department, who also interacted with farmers and stakeholders during the mela.
The Department reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers and agri-entrepreneurs through technical guidance, financial assistance under various schemes, and continuous capacity-building initiatives.
The participation of the Department of Horticulture, Jammu added significant value to the Kisan Mela 2026, making it a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and promotion of horticultural excellence in Jammu & Kashmir.
