IIC GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar organizes Skill Development Workshop on Beauty and Handicrafts in collaboration with SBI-RSETI Kathua

HIRANAGAR, Feb 14: The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) of Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar, in collaboration with SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Kathua, organized a hands-on skill development initiative on the college campus today, under the patronage of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, GDC Hiranagar. The program witnessed the gracious visit of the Director of SBI-RSETI, Utpala Saikia, along with a team of faculty members and expert trainers, who set up a dedicated training stall to provide practical exposure to students.
The visiting delegation included Utpala Saikia (Director, SBI-RSETI Kathua), Neha Salaria (Faculty), Ashok Kumar (Faculty), Avinash Sharma (Office Assistant), Hemlata (Beautician), Nirmala Kumari (Jute Products) and Sonia Sharma (Soft Toys). They interacted with students and demonstrated various skill-based activities aimed at promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship. A special focus of the session was on the Beautician Course, where students received practical training and actively participated in learning essential grooming and beauty care techniques under expert guidance. The Director of SBI-RSETI, Ms. Utpala Saikia appreciated the enthusiasm of the students and highlighted the importance of vocational skills in achieving self-reliance and financial independence. She emphasized that such training programs open avenues for youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The stall installed on the campus served as a live demonstration and counseling center, guiding students about different self-employment courses offered by SBI-RSETI, eligibility criteria, and government-supported schemes. The initiative provided students with first-hand exposure to skill-oriented learning and encouraged them to explore entrepreneurship opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of Government GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar appreciated the collaborative efforts and stressed the significance of integrating skill-based education with academics.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Anupma Arora, President, IIC GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar and the initiative reflects continuous efforts of IIC team to foster innovation, entreprenurship, and practical skill development among students. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Rajni Bala, who ensured the smooth execution of the event. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anupma Arora, who expressed gratitude to the Director, faculty members and trainers of SBI-RSETI for initiating practical skill training on campus.
It was also announced that Phase II of this Skill Training Program will be conducted in the near future to provide advanced training and extended learning opportunities to interested students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and faculty members of Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar. The members present during the workshop included Dr. Harvinder Kour, Prof. Shivani Slathia, Prof. Ganga Sharma, Prof. Shivalika, Dr. Devia, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Divya Sharma, Dr. Ridham Bakshi and Ms. Mahima Sharma.
