3/14/2026 10:06:55 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 14: Arvind Gupta on Saturday started the blacktopping work of a road in Ward No. 32, Kharian in the Jammu West Assembly Constituency, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the local residents. The project involves the macadamisation and blacktopping of the road from Camp Gole Gujral Pulley to Kharian Village Road, which has been allotted by the Public Works Department Jammu and Kashmir at an estimated cost of around Rs 50 lakh.
The work was started in the presence of former Deputy Mayor Dharmveer Singh Jamwal, the local Mandal president, sarpanchs, panchs, members of the Mandal team and officials of the Public Works Department.
Addressing the gathering, Arvind Gupta said that improving road infrastructure is one of the key priorities of the central government and the work has been initiated to provide better connectivity and convenience to the residents of the area.
"This road has been in a poor condition for quite some time and the residents had repeatedly raised the demand for its repair and blacktopping. With the start of this work, the long-pending demand of the people of Kharian has been fulfilled," Gupta said.
He added that strong road infrastructure is essential for the development of any area as it facilitates smooth transportation and improves the overall quality of life for residents.
Former Deputy Mayor Dharmveer Singh Jamwal also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the initiative, stating that the project will greatly benefit the residents of Kharian and nearby localities. He said that the blacktopping of the road will make commuting easier for the public and help reduce difficulties faced by daily commuters.
Officials of the Public Works Department present at the site informed that the project includes proper macadamisation and blacktopping of the road stretch to ensure durability and improved road quality.
Local residents welcomed the start of the project and thanked the MLA and the concerned department for addressing their long-standing demand.
The completion of the road work is expected to significantly improve connectivity and ease the movement of vehicles in Ward No. 32 and surrounding areas of the Jammu West Assembly Constituency.
