DM Jammu chairs NCORD meeting, directs for intensified efforts for drug free panchayats

JAMMU, Mar 23: District Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas today chaired a meeting of the District Level NCORD Committee meeting at the district headquarter.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Ansuya Jamwal and other district officers from health, police and district administration.
The District Magistrate sought the status of reports with respect to declaration of drug free panchayats. He was apprised on the number of panchayats which have already declared as drug free as per the guidelines and the new panchayats proposed for the same.
He directed the SDMs and Tehsildars to intensify their efforts in cordination with the health and police officials to further increase the number of panchayats as Drug free.
Sub District Magistrates were directed to inspect the medical and chemist shops to enforce the laws in terms of maintaining computerised bills and CCTV data in their shops.
The District Magistrate further asked the Assistant Commissioner Panchayat and Assistant Commissioner Development for preparing a calendar in consultation with the Chief Education Officer for organising awareness campaigns on prevention and eradication of Drug abuse menace.
All the Tehsildars were directed for inspecting the medical shops on a weekly basis in their respective jurisdictions while Health Officials were asked for regular visits of the Psychiatric clinics and Drug De-addiction centres running in their areas.
The District Magistrate also reviewed the training of counsellors, number of Awareness programes, survey report in terms of substance abusers and action taken under COTPA Act during the meeting.
