Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Apr 14: Commemorated the 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by organizing a commemorative seminar today at the Dr. Ambedkar Study Circle, Sector-37, Chandigarh. The event served as a platform to reflect upon the life, ideals, and contributions of the Father of the Indian Constitution, while also deliberating on key issues related to community welfare.
Damandeep Kaur Sandhu (wife of Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She was joined by Ms. Anuradha Chagti, Secretary Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, and Dr. Palika Arora, Director Social Welfare.
In addition to the main seminar, the Social Welfare Department organized outreach activities across its various Homes and Institutions. Special interaction sessions were conducted wherein the Department's Legal Counsellor delivered detailed lectures on the life mission, legal legacy, and significant contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. These sessions aimed to sensitize both staff and beneficiaries about constitutional rights and the vision of equality championed by Dr. Ambedkar. A total of 192 children residing in Snehalaya (Girls), Snehalaya (Boys), and Observation Homes participated enthusiastically in these programmes.
During the seminar, speakers highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's monumental contributions towards social equality and legal empowerment. Members of the Dr. Ambedkar Study Circle also raised several pertinent issues, including the status of reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) of Chandigarh in vacancies of Punjab and Haryana, and the need to ensure adequate representation of SCs in both direct recruitment and promotions across various departments of the Chandigarh Administration.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Anuradha Chagti and Dr. Palika Arora paid rich tributes to Dr. Ambedkar and assured that the Chandigarh Administration remains fully committed to addressing the concerns of the community. They emphasized that reservation is being strictly implemented across all cadres as per the prevailing rules and roster points. They further reiterated that the welfare of SC communities remains a top priority, with a strong focus on maintaining transparency in recruitment and promotional processes.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to continue working towards building an inclusive society envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
