Kulgam police apprehends 10 drug peddlers

KULGAM, Apr 15: In continuation of its sustained drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Kulgam police has achieved significant success by apprehending 10 drug peddlers, including 2 in backward linkage, in multiple operations across the district. Additionally, illegal poppy cultivation has been detected and busted.
1st incident - Police Station Qaimoh:
During routine naka checking at Khudwani on NHW-44, an auto load carrier bearing registration No. JK18E-0744 was intercepted. During search, 5.16 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the dashboard.
The driver, Fayaz Ahmad Dar S/O Mohd Shafi Dar R/O Bat Tachloo, was arrested and FIR No. 32/2026 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act registered.
Backward linkage:
During further investigation, acting on disclosure, another accused ASIF ABBAS DAR S/O Mohd Abbad Dar R/O Batengoo was apprehended near Khudwani Bypass (NHW-44). Upon his search, 1.40 gram of heroin-like substance was recovered. Section 29 NDPS Act was added, establishing backward linkage.
2nd incident - Police Station Qazigund:
During naka checking at Levdoora near the flyover, one suspicious person identified as Saqib Manzoor Itoo S/O Manzoor Ahmad Itoo R/O Wanpoh was apprehended. Upon personal search, 5.05 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered.
FIR No. 73/2026 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act stands registered.
3rd incident - Police Station Devsar:
During patrolling at General Road Arrigatnoo near a public park, one person identified as Adil Manzoor Ganie S/O Manzoor Ahmad Ganie R/O Kulgam was apprehended. Upon his search, Approx. 120 grams of cannabis-like substance and 2 grams of brown sugar-like substance were recovered along with a mobile phone and driving licence.
FIR No. 20/2026 U/S 8/20, 21 NDPS Act has been registered.
4th incident - Police Post Mir Bazar:
During naka duty at NHW near Zadoora, a naka party intercepted an auto load carrier bearing registration No. JK18C-6457. During checking, a polythene bag concealed inside the driver's seat was recovered.
Upon search, charas powder-like substance weighing approx. 119 grams was recovered.
The accused Junaid Salam Mengroo S/O Ab Salam Nengroo R/O Badroo Yaripora Kulgam was arrested.
FIR No. 75/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act registered.
5th incident - Police Station Qaimoh:
Two persons who attempted to flee during naka checking at Khudwani near SKAUST were apprehended.
They were identified as:
Jasir Imtiyaz S/O Imtiyaz Hussain Ganie R/O Karigam, Qazigund
Basit Ahmad Kaloo S/O Javaid Ahmad Kaloo R/O Sopore
On search, charas-like substance (20 grams - 10 grams each) was recovered.
FIR No. 33/2026 U/S NDPS Act registered.
Backward linkage:
On disclosure, Amir Maqbool S/O Mohd Maqbool R/O Badderpora Qaimoh was arrested and 29.08 grams of Cannabis-like substance recovered. Section 29 NDPS Act invoked.
6th incident - Police Station Qazigund:
During naka duty, one person Ghulam Mohi Din Khan S/O Mohd Afzal Khan R/O Kalian, Devsar was apprehended.
Ganja-like substance weighing approx. 1 kg 350 grams was recovered from a rice bag.
FIR No. 76/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act registered.
7th incident - Police Station Devsar (Poppy Cultivation):
At Village Sopat, land measuring 2.42 marlas was found under illegal poppy cultivation.
The land was found in possession of Ab Rasheed Mir S/O Sanaullah Mir R/O Sopat.
FIR No. 21/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act registered and cultivation destroyed.
8th incident - Police Post Jawahar Tunnel.
During naka duty at Sadiwara Dooru Road at about 10:40 hrs, one person attempted to flee on noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully.
He disclosed his identity as Arif Hussain Wani W/o Ab. Rehman Wani R/o Nadoora.
During personal search, poppy straw weighing approx. 1 kg 700 grams was recovered.
Accordingly, FIR No. 79/2026 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation taken up.
All accused persons have been arrested and further investigation is in progress to identify the source and dismantle the entire narcotics network.
SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS) appealed to the general public to support Police in the fight against drug menace. He urged citizens to share any information related to drug peddling, assuring strict confidentiality.
Kulgam police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
