5/8/2026 9:23:33 PM
Early Times Report
REASI, May 8: Continuing its intensified drive against narcotics under the "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan," District Police Reasi achieved another major success by detaining two more notorious drug peddlers under the stringent PITNDPS Act and lodging them in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
The detained accused have been identified as:
Ajay Singh S/o Rattan Singh R/o Ladda, Tehsil Moungri, District Udhampur, A/P Dadura Panthal, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi, and Jamat Ali @ Jamad S/o Abdul Haq R/o Village Khari Paroh, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi, who were repeatedly found engaged in drug trafficking activities in the district.
The accused persons were previously involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act involving recovery of heroin, charas, poppy straw and psychotropic substances. FSL reports in the heroin cases had also confirmed the presence of Diacetyl Morphine (Heroin).
In view of their continuous involvement in drug peddling and persistent activities aimed at supplying narcotics to the youth, Police Station Katra initiated action under the PITNDPS Act. Accordingly, Ajay Singh was detained vide Detention Order No. 14 of 2026 dated 06-05-2026, while Jamat Ali @ Jamad was detained vide Detention Order No. 15 of 2026 dated 06-05-2026, both issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu.
Despite repeated warnings and legal action under the NDPS Act, the accused continued indulging in illegal narcotics trade for monetary gains, thereby posing a serious threat to society and the younger generation.
Acting on the directions of Sh. Mukund Tibrewal (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, detailed dossiers were prepared and submitted for necessary action. Following approval and issuance of the detention orders by Sh. Ramesh Kumar (IAS), Divisional Commissioner Jammu, the accused were apprehended by a team from Police Station Katra and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Reiterating the firm commitment of Reasi Police against the menace of drugs, SSP Reasi stated that there is absolutely no place for drug peddlers in the district. He warned that those involved in destroying the future of the younger generation must abandon such illegal activities and return to the mainstream, failing which strict legal action under stringent laws will continue to be taken against them with an iron hand.
