Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 15: Delhi Public School Jammu organized an impactful Adolescence Awareness Programme titled "Empower HER: A Journey Through Puberty, Hygiene, and Well-being" with the objective of creating awareness among young girls about puberty, menstrual hygiene, emotional well-being, and self-care.
The programme began with an inspiring address by the Vice Principal, Ms. Meenu Gupta, who highlighted the importance of open conversations around adolescence and menstrual health. She encouraged students to embrace this phase of life with confidence, awareness, and positivity, while reiterating the school's commitment towards the holistic growth and well-being of every child.
The event was also graced by the presence of Deputy Headmistress Ms. Rimpi Sharma, and Coordinators Ms. Prerna Malhotra and Ms. Anuradha Wadhera, along with teachers and enthusiastic students.
The event was gracefully conducted by the student comperes, whose confident anchoring created a warm and engaging atmosphere. One of the major highlights of the programme was a thought-provoking Nukkad Natak titled "Breaking the Ice," presented by the students. Through their expressive performance, the students sensitively portrayed the emotional and physical changes experienced during adolescence and emphasized the importance of understanding, support, and self-acceptance.
Adding a practical dimension to the programme, the students also participated in a hands-on activity titled "Creating Comfort Kits," where they learned to prepare personal hygiene kits using essential everyday items, promoting awareness about self-care and preparedness.
The informative session by Ms. Supreet Kaur, School Counsellor, on "Understanding Puberty" helped students gain clarity about the physical, emotional, and psychological changes associated with adolescence. Her interactive approach encouraged students to understand these changes with confidence and maturity.
The highlight of the programme was the insightful session conducted by Dr. Anita Kotwal, a distinguished medical professional, on "Understanding Menstruation and Menstrual Hygiene Essentials." Dr. Kotwal addressed common myths and misconceptions related to menstruation and explained the importance of menstrual hygiene in a simple and relatable manner. Her practical guidance and reassuring interaction encouraged students to approach the topic with dignity, confidence, and openness.
An interactive question-and-answer session further provided students with a safe platform to express their queries and concerns freely, making the session highly meaningful and engaging. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
Principal Ms. Ruchi Chabra appreciated the sincere efforts of the organizing team, resource persons, teachers, and students for conducting such a meaningful and socially relevant programme. She emphasized that initiatives like "Empower HER" play an important role in nurturing informed, confident, and emotionally strong young individuals prepared to face life with awareness and dignity.
The esteemed management of DPS Jammu - Sh. M.K. Ajatshatru Singh Ji (President-RCT), Kuwarani Dr. Ritu Singh Ji (PVC), and Sh. S.S. Sodhi Ji (Director) - also extended their heartfelt appreciation for the success of the event and reiterated the school's unwavering commitment to such empowering initiatives.
