Early Times Report
RAMGARH, June 17: Government Degree College, Ramgarh commenced the week-long celebrations of International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation under the visionary leadership and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College. The series of activities is being organized by Ashok Kumar and coordinated by Prof. Brham Dutt, with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health among faculty members, students, and the wider community.
The celebrations began on 16 June 2026 with a comprehensive Yoga Session, during which participants practiced various basic yogic postures (asanas) designed to improve flexibility, strength, concentration, and overall physical health. The session emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life as a means of achieving balance between the body and mind.
Continuing the momentum of the celebrations, a special session on Breathing Exercises (Pranayama) was organized on 17 June 2026. Participants actively engaged in various breathing techniques aimed at enhancing lung capacity, improving mental clarity, reducing stress, and fostering emotional resilience. The session highlighted the significance of pranayama as a powerful tool for relaxation, self-discipline, and maintaining overall wellness in today's fast-paced world.
Addressing the participants, Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College, emphasized the transformative role of yoga in contemporary society. She stated, "Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic way of life that nurtures harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. Through these celebrations, we seek to cultivate discipline, inner peace, and healthy living among our students, faculty, and the community. The values embedded in yoga contribute significantly to building a healthier and more responsible society."
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Kumar, Organizer of the programme, remarked, "The observance of International Yoga Day Week serves as an important platform to encourage individuals to embrace yoga as a regular practice. Yoga empowers people to lead healthier and more productive lives while strengthening our collective commitment towards creating a drug-free, stress-free, and socially responsible society."
Prof. Brham Dutt, Coordinator of the programme, highlighted the educational and social dimensions of the initiative. He observed, "Awareness and education are among the most effective tools for fostering resilience and positive behavioral change. By integrating yoga practice with community outreach and wellness initiatives, we are nurturing a culture of prevention, responsibility, and holistic development that will benefit present and future generations alike."
The week-long celebration is designed to engage participants through a variety of interactive, educational, and wellness-oriented activities. These programmes aim to deepen awareness about the numerous physical, psychological, and social benefits of yoga while encouraging individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
The celebrations will continue over the coming days with additional yoga demonstrations, awareness activities, and community engagement programmes, culminating in the grand observance of International Yoga Day on 21 June 2026. The College reaffirms its commitment to promoting wellness, mindfulness, and healthy living as integral components of holistic education and nation-building.
