From cricket field to social cause: Christopher Mpofu promotes drug-free living among Doda students

DODA, June 17: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, an anti-drug awareness programme was organized at Shaheen Public Higher Secondary School, Doda by Young Star Cricket Club (YSCC) Doda in collaboration with the District Administration Doda and Health Department on 17-06-2026.
The programme was graced by former Zimbabwe international cricketer Christopher Mpofu, who is presently in Doda as the Brand Ambassador of the All India 16th Gufran Memorial T-20 Cricket Championship.
Among those present on the occasion were Director of the School Hafiz Ullah Khurwani, Vice Principal Yawer Khurwani, Chief Advisor YSCC Prof. Zaheer Abbas Hashmi, Chairman YSCC Naseer Ahmed Khora, Secretary YSCC Syed Nasir, General Secretary YSCC Faizan A. Tramboo, besides faculty members and students of the institution.
Welcoming the guests, Director of the School Hafiz Ullah Khurwani expressed his gratitude to Christopher Mpofu and YSCC Doda for choosing the institution as a venue for spreading awareness against the menace of drug abuse. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to safeguard the younger generation from substance abuse and other social evils.
Addressing the gathering, Christopher Mpofu shared his experiences from international cricket and underscored the importance of discipline, determination and healthy living in achieving success. He urged students to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances, stating that sports and education provide a constructive path towards personal growth, confidence and leadership. He encouraged the youth to channel their energies into productive activities and become ambassadors of positive change in society.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff, who actively interacted with the guest and expressed their commitment towards supporting the anti-drug campaign.
As part of the programme, an anti-drug pledge was administered to the students, teachers and participants, who collectively resolved to remain vigilant against drug abuse and contribute towards realizing the vision of a Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to continue spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.
