JAMMU: Up in arms against land mafia active in their area, people of Gho Manasan and Rathoa villages called on SSP, Jammu, Basant Rath, and told him how some goons were busy in grabbing their lands in connivance with some revenue officials.
They told the SSP that the land mafia, which also enjoyed the patronage of some politicians, had grabbed land in Domana and Purkhoo areas also.
In a written complaint, they alleged that the land grabbers had fraudulently got their names entered in the land khasra girdawari of Gho Manasan girdawari register.
The villagers said the land was being cultivated by locals for the past more than 60 years, but the land mafia had allegedly got changed the khasra girdawari by greasing the palms of some revenue officials.
They said when Balbir Singh, his two sons -- Sanjay Singh and Krishan Singh -- of Gho Manhasa and brother-in-law Rajinder Singh of Satwari approached Tehsildar Settlement for democraction and handing over the possession of the land to them, the goons threatened the patwari halqa of dire consequences if he did the needful.
They also threatened to kill the cultivators of the land if they disobeyed them.
The SSP, who listened to them patiently, ordered SHO, Domana police station, to take strict action against the land mafia.
The deputationists later called on former minister Mula Ram and the concerned tehsildar too.
