Riva Verma awarded national scholarship | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 1: Riva Verma, class 12th students of KC public school has been awarded Kishore Vigyanik Proshatam Yojna (KVPY) scholarship by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. To achieve this scholarship she qualified the written test which was held on November 1st 2009, organized by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore under the aegis of department of science and technology, government of India in which more than 35000 students who scored above 90% marks in class X appeared out of which 612 students who qualified in the written test were called for the interview at Indian Institute of science education and research (IISER) located at Mohali, Kolkata, Bhopal, Pune and Trivunantapuram. The interview of Riva Verma was held on Janurary 15th, 2010 at IISER Mohali. The number of students who were finally selected for pursuing integrated BS-MS five year course is 250 from all over the country. Riva will be getting a monthly fellowship of Rs 5000/- plus Rs 30,000/- as annual contingent grants. Riva was also the topper in 10th CBSE board exams from KC Public School with 95.8% marks. She is daughter of Professor Rajni Kant (Physics & Electronics Head, Jammu University) and Professor Rajni Dhinsra (Human Development Head, Jammu University). Principal of school Jorawar, congratulated Riva for her achievement and appreciated the efforts of science faculty members of the school in a special assembly organized in the school premises here today.
