20th Jammu District Open Billiards, Snooker Championships | Abhinav, Manu, Raja win close ties in Jr Snooker | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 13: Abhinav Sharma, Manu Khajuria and Raja Ahmed today qualified for the second round registering close wins over their opponents 2-1 in best of three frames first round of the ongoing Junior Snooker event of the 20th Jammu District Open Billiards and Snooker Championships at Billiards Hall, M A Staidum, here. Abhinav defeated Vishav Dev Singh 2-1 in relatively high scoring frames. He fought from behind after losing the top scoring opener 63-92 to emerge winner clinching the following frames 69-23, 46-24. Manu defeated Munish Bakshi in similar fashions. Down 0-1 (17-64), Manu turned the game, winning rest of the frames (67-38, 65-44) making it a 2-1 win. Raja Ahmed won his first round match against Anirit Dhawan in a nail-biting finish (56-52) in the decider. Meanwhile, according to the organizers, the second round of the junior snooker championship shall start tomorrow. Ishan-only seeded cueist in race Top seed, young Ishan Choudhary is the only seeded cueist in race for top honours in the junior snooker event because of the fact that rest of the boys have turned senior by crossing the age limit of 21 years. Meanwhile, the organizers had a tough time to handle the participants in the first round, the reason being a number of them were taking part for the first time in an event. While some reported the venue without their personal cue, others were yet to learn the basics of the sophisticated game of billiards and snooker. In the meantime, the markers had a hectic schedule on the third day of the competitions with most of the first round matches scheduled for today. The second round shall start from tomorrow. As per the draws displayed on the notice board, there are 51 cueists taking part in the junior snooker championship.
