Natrang celebrates 300 shows of Sunday Theatre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 30: The record 300th show of Natrang's Sunday Theatre was presented here today at Abhinav Theatre. Today's presentation was Badal Sircar's famous Bengali comedy in Hindustani 'Badi Buaji' directed by Sumeet Sharma. Dr Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion who not only complimented Natrang on the completion of 300 shows of Sunday Theatre but also appreciated its efforts in bringing the theatre of the state to the national and international limelight. Earlier Natrang Director Balwant Thakur in his welcome address dwelt in detail about the mission of Natrang to establish Jammu as one of the most sought after cultural destination of the country. He assured that this weekly series of Natrang 'Sunday Theatre' will find a place in the Guinness Book of World records, thus bringing pride and glory for the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Today's play a situational comedy, 'Badi Buaji'-an absolute rib-tickler depicting unending problems faced by an amateur theatre group trying to put up a play for their colony. With the rehearsals taking place in the drawing room of the Annu's house-the lead actress of the play, the sudden visit of her dear Badi Buaji creates a massive problem. 'Badi Bua Ji' is deadly against theatre, particularly her niece being on stage. Though her Daddy Sansar is a cool supporter of the young artists, playing spoilsport to their aspirations of staging the play is 'Badi Bua Ji, who is trying to save the long protected reputation of the family. The play continues to uphold situation where the "play within the play" is being practiced against the odds with Badi Buaji not ready to leave and moreover adamant to take Annu along. And poor Phuphaji has not much to say with Buaji around. Undaunted by the volute-face and inspired by Shekhar's quick thinking, the artists make a delightful last ditch attempt to outwit Badi Buaji. The end marks not only the success of the play but also wedding bells ringing for Shekhar and Annu, thanks to Shekhar's lovable Bhabhiji. Sumeet Sharma who has been awarded Bismillah Khan Award for direction in theatre has successfully adapted the play in local environs and brought lot many changes to make the theatre action more interesting. Among actors Rajani Bhatti as 'Badi Bua Ji' and Bela Thappa as 'Annu' did remarkably well despite the fact that they appeared on major stage for the first time. Pawan Verma, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Pankush Verma and Tajasvi Sharma demonstrated their professional hold over their respective performances. Sona Mehar, Arvind Singh, Bipin Gupta, Vasu Gupta and Charanjeet Bhardwaj in their sporting roles did remarkably well. Two child artists Gopi Sharma and Rhythm Mishr won the appreciation of the audience. The lights were designed by Gaurav Jamwal and executed by Jai Ram. Mohd Yaseen did the public relations whereas the hall management was done by Balwinder Singh, Vikram Sharma and Ishfaq Anwar. Aarsushi Thakur did the presentations of the show.
