Dr. Karan Singh launches 2nd edition of Bhim Singh's book

JAMMU, July 9 : Expressing anguish over the prevailing situation in the Kashmir Valley, Dr. Karan Singh hoped that a good sense will prevail to work out an urgent solution to the situation. He made these remarks while releasing 2 nd edition of the travelogue, 'Peace Mission, Around the World on Motorcycle' by Bhim Singh relating to his five years' adventurous riding around the world from 1967 to 1972 at the India International Centre.
Dr Karan Singh appreciated Bhim Singh's efforts at home and abroad for mobilizing the people's opinion for disarmament and peace during his travels.
Dr. V.P. Vaidik, who presided over the session, described Bhim Singh as the first person in the world to cross Western Sahara (2100 kms.) from Morocco to Senegal on motorcycle in 20 days in 1971. He also said that Bhim Singh is the first Indian who has travelled around 150 countries of the world on peace mission on motorcycle. He suggested that his book on his travels should be made part of the syllabus for the students in the schools and colleges. Mr. K. Padmanbhaiah, former Union Home Secretary and Chief of Naga Peace Talks said that Bhim Singh's contribution are unique and unparallel in India's political history vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir. He said that there would have been no elections to the Assembly and Parliament in 1996 without the efforts of Bhim Singh in the field and in the court. He also reminded the distinguished audience that it was only Bhim Singh who could refused an offer of 7.3 million dollars oil vouchers from Saddam Hussain in 2001 as was revealed by UN Comm issioner, Mr. Paul Volcker.
Mr. Harcharan Singh Josh, a senior Congress leader and President of Indian Council of World Affairs described Bhim Singh as one of the most distinguished authorities on International Law particularly on the affairs in the Middle East and Palestine. Mr. Abdul Latief Abdou, Press Counsellor, in the Egypt Embassy while commenting on his book said that he has learnt many things about the great Egyptian history and people through his book. He said many journalists in Egypt have offered to translate his book into Arabic.
Others who also spoke on the occasion included Prof. Chander Mohan, Shri Narender Kumar, publisher, Subash Goyal and Mrs. Nasreen Hamid, a noted journalist. Later, Prof Bhim Singh also delivered speech during the release of his second edition of his book, 'Peace Mission, Around the World on Motorcycle'.
