PDP demands free ration
8/9/2010 10:38:22 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Rajouri, August 9: Flaying the State government, senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan said that it has failed to provide the promised free ration to the last year's drought affected people and now Leh has been ravaged, it should provide free ration supplies to the people for at least 4 months.
Khan alleged that the compensation given to the people was too less as the cost of labour and other building materials in Leh are almost three times that in Jammu and may now go even higher. He further appealed to the Centre Government to increase the relief amount to at least Rs 5 lakhs.
He, further, said that the rehabilitation of the people should be on priority so that they may not fall prey to the cold as the winters will set in within a couple of months. Khan proposed for a special package for rehabilitation and resettlement of the people under the aegis of Indira Awas Yojna. A Committee under the supervision of Rigzin Jora, Tourism Minister may also be set up for the same, he said. He has also appealed to the Centre Government to provide more medical aids, including psychiatrists to help the people in post trauma situations.
Slamming the frequent visits of the VVIPs and their photo sessions in Leh, Khan said that this not only hinders the rescue operations but also burdens the state exchequer.
He appreciated the security forces, the local residents and also the tourists who are carrying on the rescue operations and said that the whole world is with them in this period of distress.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the party workers at Rajouri to express his solidarity with the people of Leh who were affected by the devastating cloudburst and the flash flood was held.
Others who spoke were Shabir Mirza, Tazeem Dar, Tahir Lone, Ch.Ghani, Nadeem Shiekh, Farooq Ahmed and Naushad Ahmed.
