Pro-Indian elements feel neglected in Kashmir | Himalayan feature | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 29: The pro-Indian forces in Kashmir hold separtists and anti-India elements in Valley less responsible than the wrong polcies of the Governemnt for the present turmoil in the Valley. They are of the belief that situation could not have deteriorated to the extent as it is at present had the Government adopted a positive approach in tackling the Kashmir crisis. The pro-Indian elements within the Valley pleading anonymity said the separatists and anti-national elemnts are blackmailing the Indian Governemnt by resorting to strikes and bandhs to seek some concessions for themselves and their famileis. This process has been going on since 1947after the Insturment of Accession was signed by the then Maharaja of the State and the Union Government and it contineus at present too, they added. They said that there has been an increase in the blackmailing tactics of the separatist elements since 1989 after the militancy surfaced in Valley. Had the Government not succumbed to the pressure of these separatist and anti national elements they would have since been marginalised and rejeced by the masses. But due to lack of a concrete and firm policy to deal with the situation has led to the blackmailing of Union Government by the separatists and the present turmoil was the offshoot of the same, they added. Citing examples they said that the people who had links with terrorists were appointed on prize posts by the Government while those who involved themselves in a big risk by taking a banner of revolt against the terrorism and separatism were sidelined by the successive governments at centre and state. Some of the people having links with terrorists are today enjoying the patronage of the Government and they were also utilsied in track two diplomacy. Such an soft approach has encouraged the separatist leadership to call shots and blackmail India to seek the benefits for themselves and their family members, feel the pro-nationalist forces in Kashmir. They said had the Government adopted a tough stand and given a clear signal to thsoe elements who sidded with terrorists that they will be dealt seriously under the law of the land no one would have dared to challenge the national unity and integrity in Kashmir. But in comparison to this the ruling junta gave the impression that India is a soft state, they added. The Government has not erred at one place but has committed many blunders in Kashmir providing ample opportunities to the separatists and anti-national elements for blackmailing, they said, adding one of the separatists involved in a treason case over three decades back on the behest of Paksitan is presently having assets in crores of rupees within Valley. This separatist has amassed a huge wealth over the decades when he had not a peny in 1971, they added. The nationalist elements are of the view that encouragement to such elements who have taken banner of revolt against nation is being considered prize fetching by the Kashmiri youth and this is the reason that majority of them join the socalled movement not to challenge accession in real sense but to blackmail Indian leadership for their personnel benefits. But unfortunatley the people at the people at the helm of affairs have hardly realised this fact, they added. Feeling totally dejected the pro-India elements in Kashmir said that it was high time that the Government of India should change its policy and take steps to encourage those elemetns in Valley who have over 20 years of turmoil taken a banner of revolt against the terrorism and separatism by keeping Indian flag high. |
