Akanksha guides GCW Parade win title | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 11: District women’s champion, Akanksha Raina today single handedly guided Government College for Women (GCW) Parade to win the inter-college badminton title beating Post Graduate (PG) Departments 2-0 in the final played today at Gymnasium Hall on the campus, here. She not only won her singles match, but also played superb game in the doubles pairing with Anchal. For his distinguished performance, Akanksha received appreciations from one and all at the venue. “Had she not displayed the fine show in doubles, it would have been difficult for the college to win the title,” teacher incharge of the college, Prof Harmeet Singh Soodan. The GCW Parade has won the trophy after a long gap. To reach the final, Parade College shuttlers trounced the defending champion, GGM Science College in the semi-finals yesterday. In other semi-final, PG women beat the last year’s runners-up, Government Degree College Kathua. The Detailed Results (final): GCW Parade bt PG Departments 2-0: Akanksha Raina bt Ritu 21-09, 21-12. Doubles: Akanksha and Anchal bt Ritu and Vanika Saini 22-20, 21-09. Meanwhile, the winners GCW Parade team called on Principal of the College, Prof Kiran Bakshi. The three-member team was accompanied by teacher incharge, Dr Harmeet Singh Soodan and incharge sports, Suman Sharma. Principal appreciated the efforts of the team, especially Akanksha Raina, who played a key role in college’s title win.
