Two day seminar on environmental issues concludes

JAMMU, Sept 18: Two day seminar on “Global Issues on Environment” sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi concluded at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade.
Valedictory function began at 4:00 PM with welcome address by Principal of the college Dr. Kiran Bakshi. She extended gratitude to all the distinguished guests and participants for making seminar informative and relevant for the society and nation at large. This was followed by a creative dance performance on the ‘Repercussions of Global Warming’.
Thereafter, a report on the proceedings of the seminar was presented by Dr. Pragya Khanna, organizing secretary of the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M.R. Puri appreciated the principal and the organizers for conceiving the idea of Global issue on Environment as the topic of the seminar enabling the participants to ponder at the remedial measures thereof which is the dire need of the time.
Dr. Sham Lal Gupta also lauded the efforts made by the college for creating awareness among the students about the challenges and threats posed by the Environmental pollution and global warming. Finally the Chief Guest Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma complemented the Principal, staff and students for enriching the academic milieu by organizing National and State level seminars with the aim to sensitize the young generation about the current issues faced by the nation. Chief Guest also released the ‘Souvenir’ and presented mementos to the participants.
Earlier, there were two technical sessions which were chaired by Prof. S.P.S Dutta, Prof. Meena Sharma, Prof. Kuldeep K. Sharma and Dr. Kamal Kapoor. Four participants delivered their lectures on the said subject. In the interactive session, Dr. Zahoor Chatt, Principal, S.P College, Srinagar, and Dr. Pankaj felicitated the Principal and the organizers for their sincere endeavor for making this programme a success. The Programme was compered by Megha Jamwal, Aakriti Sharma, Sugandh Gupta and Rabiyat Kour. The function ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Meenu Mahajan.
Minister of State for Higher Education Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion while Director Colleges, Higher Education, Dr. Sham Lal Gupta and former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. M.R, Puri were Guest of honour and special guest respectively. Principals, Ex-Principals, participants from various parts of the state, faculty members and students were present.
