He had made it clear in the round table conference in London that he was for independence of India for which he had to pay heavily as Britishers never trusted him thereafter. Singh was speaking on the occasion late Maharaja Hari Singh 115th birth anniversary which was celebrated by the Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajpur) Sabha Jammu. He congratulated on the occasion Kr Narayan Singh president of the Sabha to organize this great function inviting members of the other communities to pay the homage to great, secular, patriot, democrate ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.
Maharaja Hari Singh was a great patriot but it was unfortunate to face many problems because of internal and external conspiracies. The biggest tragedy of his life as that the Maharaja was put in exile who had acceded his state to Indian Union by virtue of which Jammu and Kashmir became legally and integral part of the country. This was done by the new leadership to appease Sheikh Moh. Abdullah and some others who were operating under communal considerations.' Said MLA Porf. Chaman Lal Gupta while addressing a function organized in connection with the observance of 115th birth day of late Maharaja Hari Singh here today. He recalled that it was the first prince who had pleaded for the independence of India at the Round Table conference held in 1930 at London. But he had to pay a peace for it as the Britishers started conspiracies to humiliate the Maharaja. He said in 1931 the communal trouble erupted in Kashmir and there were riots and large scale violence under the banner of Muslim conference which was later on renamed as national Conference added this child was adopted by the Congress under the stewardship of Jawahar Lal Nehru, seeds of communal turmoil in the valley of Kashmir were sown as far back as 1931, when the agitation against the Maharaja was launched by Muslim conference although Hari Singh at the time of assuming of his office had pledged that though by Birth is a Hindu but as a Maharaja he was having no other religion except to do justice to all sections of the people. Prof. Gupta recalled that the slogans of Quit Kashmir being raised now by the leaders of Hurriyat Conference are too not now. The only difference was that in 1942, when the congress launched Quit Indian movement against the imperialist Britishers, the NC had launched Quit Kashmir raising slogans against the Dogras although Maharaja and Dogras in Kashmir were not foreigners. But it was tragic that the congress leadership of Nehru supported this movement which was basically communal as is now that of the Hurriyat Conference.
Porf. Gupta said that with the exit of Maharaja and the NC coming to power with the support of congress, the painful period of discrimination against Jammu had started which still continues although the regime of Maharajas was that of a dynasty but the people of Jammu are being still treated with a vengeance and politically they have been enslaved and face the situation that of second class citizens. He said that the current turmoil in the valley of Kashmir and mishandling of the problems in the Kashmir were the result of that very communal mindset and approach which had made the Maharaja Hari Sing to suffer. The biggest tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh, he said would be expose all those elements that were behind the conspiracies and are still operating under those very mindset which has come to be danger for security and integrity of the country. And also responsible for regional discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh, he said.
